Research Specializations

Human Motion Analysis

This research involves the imaging of humans in motion to better quantify health and disease. Commercial and customized systems are used at Marquette and in the region to analyze gait, other limb motion, and sports activities. Results can help clinical practice by quantitatively assessing the effectiveness of an intervention.

Orthopaedics

In this area of research, biomedical engineers work with clinicians to study orthopaedic issues. They include biomechanical models of orthopaedic systems and the study of bone in health and disease.

Orthopaedic Rehabilitation

This research focuses on rehabilitation of patients who are being treated for orthopaedic conditions. This can include recovery from surgical or casting procedures and monitoring progress from interventions or rehabilitation exercises.

Prosthetics

This work focuses on development of innovative prosthetics and the analysis of prosthetics on patient function. This includes active prosthetic joint design and control systems. Patient-prosthetic interactions are also studied at Marquette.

Sports Medicine

Sports-related research is an area of biomedical engineering at Marquette. This includes analyzing professional athlete performance and improving the design of sporting equipment.
