Scarbrough Wins Seeds of Faith Fellowship
February 1, 2021
Allison Scarbrough, a second-year graduate student in the MU-MCW Department of Biomedical Engineering, was recently awarded Marquette’s Seed of Faith Fellowship. Granted to students who exemplify the Marquette Mission in both their personal and academic lives, this renewable fellowship is provided through the generous support of the Rose family, to whom Allison extends her thanks and gratitude. “I would love to thank the Rose family for this extremely generous opportunity, as it alleviates the time and stress that come with seeking funding for my research. With your contribution, it is possible to empower more women to take charge of their health, sooner!”
Allison’s research focuses on the detection of cervical cancer using the Smartphone Microendoscope, also known as the SmartME, novel instrumentation developed under the supervision of Dr. Bing Yu and the Biophotonics Laboratory. This instrumentation is specifically designed to help make cervical cancer screening available to and affordable for women living in low- and middle-income countries.
