Global Mobility presented at Elsevier Seminar
September 15, 2021: Dr. Gerald Harris, Director of the Marquette University and Medical College of Wisconsin Orthopaedic & Rehabilitation Engineering Center, and Dr. Joycie Abiera, Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Rehabilitative Medicine at the University of the Philippines, discussed Global Mobility Outreach at Elsevier’s September installation of their monthly webinar series, Global Perspectives on Medicine, Rehabilitation and Robotics. The seminar delineated OREC’s Motion Analysis Laboratories’ Global Mobility program, whose global installations promote motion analysis education, training and therapy to support children with orthopaedic disabilities and rehabilitative needs.
Presentation Overview
Human motion analysis is used to define the extent of orthopaedic disability and rehabilitative need and to plan and monitor treatment strategies and outcomes. It enables clinicians to quantitatively describe rehabilitative progress, plan surgeries, and conduct research. While this technology is prevalent in major academic medical centers, access is lacking in many regions throughout the world. This webinar presents a novel approach to offer more accessible technology, clinical training and research support. Current applications are underway in Colombia, Mexico, Mumbai, the Philippines and Taiwan. Through international partnerships, improvements in clinical care, medical education, and research have been provided.
