Facilities for the Fan Flow Integrated Research Laboratory include Engineering Hall on Marquette University's Milwaukee campus. Collaborative research facilities are located at the Translational and Biomedical Research Center on the Medical College of Wisconsin's Milwaukee campus.
The Fan Flow Integrated Research Laboratories space at Marquette Universities Engineering Hall serves as a center for student enrichment. Lab space facilitates the study of tissue biomechanics, providing access to necessary softwares and comfortable study and lecture space for students and faculty alike, right at the heart of the Marquette University campus.
Located on the Medical College of Wisconsin's Milwaukee campus, the Translational and Biomedical Research Center is intentionally designed to facilitate collaborative research seeking world-class results. The open concept lab space hosts research faculty working in imaging, multi-scale tissue engineering, systems biology and nanotechnology with a range of applications. The site offers easy access to clinical and research collaborators at Children's Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospitals, as well various other departments at the Medical College of Wisconsin, including the Pathology Department, whose research laboratories host the ventilation-perfusion system employed by the Fan Flow Integrated Research Laboratory and its members.
The Fan Flow Integrated Research Laboratory utilized wet lab capabilities provided by the Cardiovascular Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee campus. This space houses the Working Heart System and the Biaxial Tissue Testing System. The Working Heart System simultaneously monitors mechanical and electrical cardiac parameters, allowing researchers to examine the influence of preload and afterload on cardiac work during perfusion. The Biaxial Tissue Testing System can comprehend the mechanical behaviors of biomaterials.
As a member of the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering, Translational and Biomedical Research Center, and the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the Fan Flow Integrated Research Laboratory enjoys access to a rich pool of shared resources provided by Marquette University, the Medical College of Wisconsin, and partner institutions throughout Milwaukee and Southeast Wisconsin, including:
Whether seasoned researcher, advanced student or curious undergrad, the Fan Flow Integrated Research Laboratory has opportunities for innovators of all types. For further information on current opportunities to get involved with the F2IRL, contact Principal Investigator Dr. Lei Fan.
