About the Biomaterials & Histology Laboratory

Led by Dr. Jeffrey Toth, Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Biomaterials at the Marquette University School of Dentistry, the Biomaterials and Histology Laboratory is one of several research laboratories working under the umbrella of the Orthopaedic & Rehabilitation Engineering Center, a joint effort of Marquette University and the Medical College of Wisconsin.  With facilities located on the Marquette University campus, research at OREC's BIMA Laboratory includes the evaluation of bone void fillers and bone graft substitutes, mechanisms and clinical applications of osteoinductive materials, and evaluation of materials for orthopaedic, spine, and dental devices.

Meet the Director

Dr. Jeffrey Toth is a key faculty member of OREC, a joint effort between the Medical College of Wisconsin and Marquette University.  Dr. Toth’s primary appointment is Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Biomaterials at the Marquette University School of Dentistry.  Dr. Toth holds a secondary appointment as Professor of Biomedical Engineering in the Marquette-MCW Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering.  Dr. Toth also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Director of Biomaterials Research Laboratory in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin

Toth and Everson Receive Funding to Study Chronic Sleep Deficiency as a Cause of Bone Loss in Aging 

May 2024:  Drs. Jeffrey Toth and Carol Everson have received a $555 K award from the National Institutes of Health, for a new project seeking to define the biology of chronic sleep deficiency, how it changes bone structure and remodeling activities that underlie bone fragility and fracture risk in aging.
