The Global Mobility Outreach program supports the development of international clinics promoting better health care through OREC's advanced biomedical orthopaedic technology. Organizational partners provide clinical mobility services that include quantitative motion analysis to improve surgical and rehabilitative treatment approaches. Individuals served by these programs include children and adults facing neuromuscular and orthopaedic challenges, including cerebral palsy, clubfoot, leg length discrepancies, muscular dystrophy, metabolic bone disorders, trauma and a host of other conditions. Our goals include supporting the improvement of clinical care and access for patients and families in underserved areas throughout the world through the establishement of quantitative motion analysis systems, education and training. Educational support is provided for physicians, surgeons, engineers, clinical staff, medical residents and medical students. Through these efforts, our organizational partners have been able to enhance clinical care, orthopaedic and rehabilitation research, clinical training, operational independence and self-sufficiency.

Our Reach

The Global Mobility program has an international reach, with established motion analysis laboratories in Cali, Colombia; Manila, Philippines; Mexico City, Mexico; Mumbai, India; and Taoyuan City, Taiwan. In addition, new lab development is supported in the United States.

Come Study With Us!

Students interested in traveling the world while engaging in biomedical research designed to improve the lives of individuals living in low-resource areas are invited to apply for The Motion Analysis Center's Global Mobility program.

How does it work?  Coursework and laboratory experiences in Global Mobility are offered through the OREC Motion Analysis program and the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering. Students completing a one-semester course (BIEN 4931/5931 - Global Mobility) qualify for rotations through the Marquette Office of International Education to participate in outreach motion analysis laboratories accompanied by faculty and laboratory staff. Student experiences include work in an active motion analysis lab, introduction to orthopaedic and rehabilitation clinics, detailed case analyses and collegial experiences with host partners.

Not a student of biomedical engineering?  That's okay. The OREC Global Mobility program is open to students across campus.
