Biomedical Engineering Assistant Professor Dr. Jordan Williams, M.D., Ph.D., was recently announced as a winner of the Innovation in Research and Technology Competition presented by Ripple Neuro. The award was presented at the annual Society for Neuroscience Conference during Ripple’s social on October 21st in Chicago, IL.
Dr. Williams was selected as the winner in the rodent research division by an external panel of judges for his proposal examining the combined use of electrical and optogenetic stimulation to stimulate muscle activity. This research is aimed at reanimating limbs paralyzed by conditions such as spinal cord injury by using viral gene therapy delivery to make peripheral nerves sensitive to light stimulation.
For his winning proposal, Dr. Williams will receive a Ripple electrophysiology system valued near $45,000 to support his research experiments. Congratulations Dr. Williams!
