Story Ready with Janece Shaffer

Stories are critically important for engineers. Stories help identify opportunities and ensure that active projects are on target to make a difference. Good stories can inspire and motivate people to join a cause, lend their talents to a project, and bring forth new leadership.

Led by award-winning playwright Janece Shaffer, who has more than two decades of business experience as a content developer and marketer, this three-hour workshop aimed to inspire students to reflect, connect the dots, and set their sights on the “big picture.” Students could expect to come away with greater self-awareness, as well as outlines for stories for future development or immediate dissemination.

The Story Ready workshop was held over Zoom to allow for one-on-one coaching and the most flexibility so that all could attend. An in-person social component was built into the end of this workshop to allow students to come together, reflect, and use the skills that they learned.

Fierce Conversations with Andrea Minkley

The Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering was thrilled to welcome Associate Director of Engineering and Innovation Leadership Development, Andrea Minkley, as the workshop facilitator. In this two-part, half-day workshop, Andrea coached students through the relationships involved in having a conversation while effectively addressing attitudinal, behavioral, or performance issues with a colleague, mentor, or team.

Registered students had access to workshop materials, a workbook to keep, and their own copy of the national bestselling book, Fierce Conversations, by Susan Scott, which served to guide the workshop.
