The International Society for Otitis Media (ISOM) is a non-profit organization that has been a leading pioneer in the field of otitis media for many years. Since 1975, the founding members of ISOM have organized over 20 symposia that have brought together investigators whose clinical interests and research focused on the diseases of the middle ear.
The 22nd Annual Symposium on Recent Advances in Otitis Media was held at the Medical College of Wisconsin from June 19–21, 2023. This three-day symposium hosted over 70 talks and attracted leaders from all over the world, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Guinea, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and the UK, as well as from many locations across the United States.
At the symposium, Shayan Shafiee, PhD student in the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering, gave a talk and was recognized for Outstanding Abstract titled, “In Vivo Biodistribution and Ototoxicity Evaluation of Noninvasive Trans-Tympanic Delivered Liposomal-Ceftriaxone for Otitis Media Treatment.”
Shayan is a lab member of Dr. Amit Joshi’s Nanomedicine & Image-Guided Interventions Laboratory (NIGIL) and has been recently published in Cancers for a study that uses near-infrared fluorescence imaging and a novel machine learning framework in the hopes of assisting physicians with determining treatment for triple-negative breast cancer patients.
