This checklist is designed to assist students seeking their Doctoral Degree in the Legacy program offered by the Marquette University and Medical College of Wisconsin Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering. Students are encouraged to review included requirements but are cautioned that this resource may not be comprehensive. For a complete list of degree requirements, please refer to the appropriate student handbook.

Complete Program of Study
Action: Complete program of study. Please note, the completed courses must match those listed on your Doctoral Planning Form
Timeframe: By the end of your first year of study

Action: Meet with your planning adviser to identify your Doctoral Committee
Timeframe: By the end of your first year of study

Amend Doctoral Planning Form
Action: Your doctoral planning form must be amended any time a change is made in your program of study

Action: Present summary of research progress to your Doctoral Committee

Submit Dissertation Outline
Action: Submit Doctoral Dissertation Outline form to all members of the Dissertation Committee with Detailed Dissertation Proposal appended.
Timeframe: At least 21 days prior to approaching Dissertation Committee with request to begin qualifying examinations

Complete Necessary Credits
Action: Complete 12 dissertation credits.
Timeframe: After dissertation outline is approved
Complete Written Portion of Dissertation Qualifying Exam
Action
- Contact Director of Graduate studies to schedule written portion of Dissertation Qualifying exam.
- Complete written portion of Dissertation Qualifying Exam.
Timeframe
- For students entering the program with a Master's Degree, written portion of Dissertation Qualifying Exam will occur 9 months after entering the program.
- For students entering the program with a Bachelor's Degree, written portion of the Dissertation Qualifying Exam will occur at or before completion of 30 credit hours or upon completion of Master's Degree, whichever comes first.

Complete Oral Portion of Dissertation Qualifying Exam
Action
- Contact BME Office at Marquette to schedule oral portion of Dissertation Qualifying Exam. The BME office will assist with the coordination of necessary paperwork.
- Complete oral portion of Dissertation Qualifying Exam.
Timeframe: By the end of the second year and after approval of dissertation outline
Resources
Schedule Public Dissertation Defense
Action: Schedule Public Dissertation Defense through Marquette Graduate School.
Timeframe: At least 30 days prior to intended dissertation date
