Dr. Guilherme Garcia wins Community of Innovators Award

Biomedical Engineering Assistant Professor Dr. Guilherme Garcia received an MCW Community of Innovators Award for his work in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Dr Garcia was nominated for his innovative research program addressing OSA. He has developed methodologies that include patient-specific 3D printing of anatomical models and computational flow models to assist Otolaryngology Clinicians toward specific treatment selection for each patient.
In addition to his innovative research efforts, Dr. Garcia has consistently mentored students in these state-of-the-art methods. He is a regular research mentor for the Diversity Summer Health-Related Education Program through the Medical College of Wisconsin, as well as medical students and Otolaryngology residents in their research education.
The award was given to Dr. Garcia at the MCW Convocation held Thursday, September 19th, and comes with $10,000 to support his lab.
