Brian Stemper, PhD, professor in the MCW and Marquette University Department of Biomedical Engineering, has earned a 2020 top paper award from the Annals of Biomedical Engineering (ABME). The decision was based on review of all papers published in 2019, of which there were over 200.

Dr. Stemper’s paper, “Comparison of Head Impact Exposure Between Concussed Football Athletes and Matched Controls: Evidence for a Possible Second Mechanism of Sport-Related Concussion,” uses data from the NCAA-DOD Concussion Assessment, Research and Education Consortium, also known as the CARE Consortium. Michael McCrea, PhD, professor of neurosurgery and director of the MCW Brain Injury Research Program, is the co-principal investigator of the consortium.

Dr. Stemper's award will be presented at the annual Biomedical Engineering Society meeting this fall in San Diego.
