Students interested in participating in the SUPREMES Program are invited to review eligibility requirements and apply. Application requirements, as outlined below, include completing the application and submitting your resume, personal statement, transcripts, and letters of recommendation. Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements may be invited for an interview.
To qualify for the SUPREMES, students must meet and adhere to the following guidelines:
- Applicants must be of Junior or Senior standing and be a minimum of 16 years of age upon the start of the program. Unfortunately, as a result of safety regulations in our labs, no exceptions can be made to this requirement.
- Students must be in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.5 or higher; however, exceptions will be considered for the GPA requirement if addressed in the personal statement or other application materials.
- Students must have successfully completed or be currently enrolled in the following coursework: Biology, Chemistry, Algebra I & II, and two years of English/Composition.
- Students must complete and submit all application materials on time, including all recommendation letters.
In addition, an Affiliation Agreement and Program Memorandum between MCW and the student’s academic institution must be in place before the first day of the program. If accepted into the program, the program administrators will work with your school to complete this requirement; no action is required on your part.
The SUPREMES Application is composed of 25 questions and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete. Please be prepared to upload your resume, transcripts, and personal statement and answer questions regarding your scientific interests and current academic activities.
The Application window for the Class of '25 SUPREMES program will open on February 1, 2024. The application deadline is Friday, April 19, 2024. No exceptions will be made to this deadline.
Institutional inquiries regarding support building student interest in the SUPREMES Program are accepted on an ongoing basis.
Letters of Recommendation
Each applicant must submit two letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation must be written by current and/or former professors/instructors or advisers and should convey your interest in the sciences and research.
*Letters submitted after close of the application window will not be considered. It is recommended that all applicants follow up with their referees to ensure letters are submitted prior to the application deadline.
Submit Letters of Recommendation
Applicants advanced to the interview process will be contacted via e-mail for scheduling. Interviews generally take place in April and May of each year.
For the interview, be prepared to answer questions about your interests in science, as well as your current or recently completed science and maths courses.
Applicants chosen to participate will be sent an acceptance letter via email. Upon accepting the offer in writing via email, the applicant's participation in SUPREMES Program is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and having a Program Memorandum/Affiliation Agreement in place with the high school prior to the start of the first day of the program.
Please note, SUPREMES is a competitive program, and the number of students accepted is contingent upon the number of laboratory workspaces available in a given academic year. However, applicants not accepted to participate in the program during their Junior year are invited to apply to participate as Seniors.
SUPREMES Program Class of '25 will begin in the Fall of 2024 and conclude with the Research Symposium, normally held early June of the following year. While official dates for SUPREMES Class of '25 have not been set, it is anticipated that the format for the SUPREMES Program Calendar for the Class of '25 will be based on the SUPREMES Program sample calendar, which can be accessed at the link below. The SUPREMES Program Calendar '25 will be made available to students once accepted into the program.
